I could be wrong, as I basing this purely on how very similar it is to one of my house plants but it might at least give you somewhere to start looking.

I couldn't tell you a species as the label got lost from ours years ago but try researching Dracaena (dragon trees). If it is a dragon tree don't expect it to stay that height, we have three different species and they're all over 2 foot now. Also I have no idea if they are reptile safe.

Alternatively do you have a local garden centre that you could take it to for identification as this is probably the safest option?

 

I have this plant in with my cresties and they love hiding in it all day.

Is the middle of the rosette hollow and capable of holding water?

I can't see from that picture but if it is and going by what I can see my guess is a bromeliad but not sure which one.

And yes bromeliads are safe.

Thanks all, i thought it looked similar to a dragon tree but didnt research it any furthur. Morgan Freeman my plant guru confirmed it to be a Dracaena deremensis compacta, basically a dense little dragon tree. Its safe and is planted now
